| Electrolysis Electrolysis is the only permanent method of removing unwanted hair from the face and body. There are three methods of electrolysis; short wave diathermy, galvanic and blend. Galvanic is the oldest method of removal and is not used so much these days, short wave diathermy was the next method to be developed and the blend is the newest approach and as the name suggests it combines both other methods. • Electrolysis is performed by inserting a tiny needle into the hair follicle then an electrical current is passed through it via a small machine. The sensation you feel depends on pain threshold and the area being treated; for example the top lip will be more sensitive than the lower leg.
Advanced Electrolysis Other treatment that can be done by electrolysis is the removal of thread veins, warts, milia and skin tags. This uses the same machine, but in a different way. • To remove thread veins the needle is put on the vein, not inserted, before the current is released and this corterises the vein allowing the blood to come to the surface forming a small scab which soon disappears. • To remove warts the needle is actually inserted into the wart before the current is release, this kills the wart from the inside. • Milia are found commonly around the eye area and look like whiteheads but are very hard and impossible to squeeze. They are just a build up of the skins natural oil?sebum? which goes hard when it oxidises. To remove these the current is passed into the milia and it dessicates it allowing it to disappear by itself after a couple of days. • Skin tags are usually found under the bust or around the neck area. This as it states, is just an extra piece of skin usually brought on by clothes chaffing constantly. These are removed by the current being passed through the neck of the tag, they then fall off after a couple of days.
